Long Drax swing bridge, Former railway swing bridge on River Ouse, England
The Long Drax swing bridge extended 248 feet across the River Ouse with a central rotating section and two 81-foot approach spans.
Built in the 1880s for the Hull and Barnsley Railway, the bridge operated until 1968 and was dismantled between 1976 and 1977.
The bridge represents a period of railway expansion in Yorkshire, connecting communities and supporting both passenger and freight transportation needs.
The remaining abutments of the bridge can be viewed along the River Ouse, with walking paths providing access to the historical site.
The bridge's rotating mechanism used two three-cylinder hydraulic motors powered by an accumulator system housed within the central pier structure.
