Cambridge Theatre, Art Deco theatre in Seven Dials, London, England.
The Cambridge Theatre is a playhouse located in the Seven Dials neighborhood of London Borough of Camden. The building rises through three tiers and displays modern expressionist design from the 1930s, with clean lines and geometric patterns running throughout its interior spaces.
The playhouse opened in 1930, a year when several major West End venues began their operations. Along with other stages from that era, it marked a shift toward new architectural trends in London theatre construction.
This venue has hosted a musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's Matilda since 2011, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company. The show has won multiple Olivier and Tony Awards and remains one of the most successful productions ever staged here.
The box office opens Monday through Saturday from 12 PM to 7 PM and on Sundays from 12 PM to 3 PM. Three bars inside the building serve refreshments for visitors.
The building draws on German expressionist design principles, setting it apart from most Victorian and Edwardian playhouses in London. This approach was unusual for the West End in the 1930s and continues to give the venue a distinct character today.
