Hensol Castle

Hensol Castle is a Gothic Revival mansion from the 18th century in Pendoylan, Wales. The building features crenellated stone walls and classical interior spaces, set within landscaped grounds near the River Ely.

The Jenkins family held the estate from the early 1400s onward, shaping the landscape through their ownership. A family member who served as a judge took a controversial stance during the English Civil War period.

The name derives from Welsh origins relating to hilltop geography. Inside, visitors see classical design choices that reflect the Georgian wealth of the landowners who built here.

The site is now part of a larger resort with event spaces available for visitors to explore. You can walk the surrounding grounds and view the architecture from different angles, with riverside paths offering quieter walking routes.

From the 1930s until 2003, the building operated as a medical care facility for the local county, serving hundreds of patients over decades. Its transformation into an events venue shows how historic structures can find fresh purposes in modern times.
