Eureka! The National Children's Museum

Eureka! is a children's museum in Halifax featuring over 400 interactive displays arranged across six separate zones. Each zone explores different topics including science, technology, and human biology through hands-on exhibits that children can touch and use.

The museum was established in 1992 on the site of a former railway, transforming abandoned industrial land into a learning space for children. This redevelopment was made possible by funding from charitable foundations and private supporters who believed in hands-on education.

The museum encourages children to discover scientific ideas through direct exploration rather than passive learning. Visitors can engage with concepts in ways that feel natural and spontaneous, shaped by curiosity instead of formal instruction.

The museum is designed mainly for children up to around age 11, though older siblings and adults can explore the exhibits alongside them. Plan to spend several hours there, as most visitors stay long enough to experience multiple zones and return to favorite exhibits.

A gallery called All About Me features anatomically accurate models that children can step inside to learn how the human body works from the inside. This unusual approach lets visitors physically experience what they are learning about in an immersive way.
