Mayow Park, Municipal park in Lewisham, England
Mayow Park is a 7-hectare green space in Lewisham featuring mature English oak trees, tennis courts, and a bowling green distributed across gently rolling terrain. The grounds include paved pathways, a children's playground with ziplines, an outdoor gym, and a cafe where visitors can find varied activities.
The park was established in 1878 on land once owned by the Mayow family, becoming Lewisham's second public space after Blackheath. Ancient oak trees scattered across the grounds predate this opening and represent the site's earlier history as private land.
The park serves as a gathering place where neighbors meet regularly for events celebrating local traditions and natural heritage. Visitors see people enjoying the grounds beneath ancient trees while taking part in community activities that mark the seasons and local history.
The park is freely accessible from dawn to dusk and features well-maintained paved paths suitable for wheelchair users. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as the terrain slopes gently and offers shaded areas beneath the trees.
Around 20 ancient oak trees scattered throughout the park are older than the park itself and form Lewisham's most important collection of old trees outside Beckenham Place Park. These trees witnessed the transformation of the site from private land to public space.
