Milton Court

Milton Court is an English country house in Dorking with seven bays and shaped gables that define its Victorian exterior. Inside, you will find elaborate fireplaces, ornate ceilings, and twenty additional rooms added later, including a specialized flower room showcasing fine craftsmanship.

The property was originally a priory before George Evelyn acquired it in the 17th century and converted it into a residential house. The Victorian architect William Burges later expanded the building significantly, creating much of the structure seen today.

The building now serves as the UK headquarters for Unum Group, while still maintaining its historical features for visitors to see. Check in advance whether visits are possible, as it functions as a private business site rather than a public museum.

The forecourt walls, terrace, piers, and ornamental stone finials received formal listing protection in the early 1970s, a rare honor for exterior elements. This recognition shows how the grounds themselves were deemed worthy of preservation alongside the main building.
