Highfield Country Park

Highfield Country Park is a country park in Levenshulme with around 70 acres of natural habitats including woodlands, grasslands, and wetlands. These different environments support a wide range of plants and animals throughout the seasons.

The site was originally a clay pit where the Jackson Brick Company mined clay for brick production during the 1950s. Over time it became industrial land and later was reclaimed as a nature reserve.

The park serves as a gathering space where locals come to walk, watch birds, and spend time outdoors with family and friends. You can see how the community values this green space as a place to connect with nature in their neighborhood.

You can explore the park using multiple walking trails that run from Broom Avenue to Reddish Golf Course, with connections to Longford Road and Nelstrop Road. The trails make it easy to access the park from different surrounding neighborhoods.

The site became an official Local Nature Reserve in 2008, protecting various wildlife species after years as industrial land. This transformation from a former industrial area into thriving natural habitat represents an unusual success story of land reclamation.
