Church of St Mary, Lowe House

The Church of St Mary features a prominent dome merging Romanesque and Gothic designs, supported by a castellated octagonal tower with a 16-foot copper cross.

The construction of the current church building began in 1924 on land donated by Winefred Eccleston, replacing a smaller chapel from 1793.

The church contains a collection of 47 bells forming the largest carillon in Northwest England, regularly performing musical compositions for the community.

Sunday Mass takes place at 11:00 AM, while arrangements for baptisms require completion of preparation courses through the parish office.

Local residents refer to this religious structure as 'The Poor Man's Cathedral' due to its construction funded entirely through community donations during economic hardship.
