Waltham Forest Town Hall, Grade II listed administrative building in Walthamstow, England
Waltham Forest Town Hall is a three-story administrative building constructed from Portland limestone with copper accents and a symmetrical facade featuring a full-height columned portico. It serves as the headquarters of Waltham Forest London Borough Council.
The building was completed in 1942 during World War II, replacing an earlier Italianate structure that had stood on Orford Road. Its construction marked the area's advancement from urban district to municipal borough.
The council chamber holds five statues by sculptor John Francis Kavanagh, and the assembly hall has hosted performances by musicians including Yehudi Menuhin and Plácido Domingo. These artworks shape the cultural identity of the space.
The site is located in Walthamstow town center and is easily accessible on foot from surrounding streets. Visitors can enter through or near the main portico and explore the building's interior.
Fellowship Square surrounding the building underwent transformation in 2021, adding a memorial garden with a reproduction of Henry Moore's sculpture The Arch. This addition links the civic architecture with contemporary art installation.
