Waltham Forest Town Hall, Grade II listed administrative building in Walthamstow, England
Waltham Forest Town Hall is a three-storey civic building in the London Borough of Waltham Forest, built from Portland limestone with copper details and a symmetrical front featuring a full-height columned portico. It serves as the headquarters of Waltham Forest London Borough Council.
The building was completed in 1942, replacing an earlier Italianate structure that had stood on Orford Road. Its construction coincided with the area's rise from urban district to municipal borough.
The council chamber holds five statues by sculptor John Francis Kavanagh, which visitors can still see today. The assembly hall has hosted performances by musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin and Plácido Domingo over the years.
The building sits in Walthamstow town centre and is easy to reach on foot from the surrounding streets. Visitors can enter through the main portico entrance to explore the interior.
Fellowship Square, which surrounds the building, was transformed in 2021 to include a memorial garden with a reproduction of Henry Moore's sculpture The Arch. The original work was created for the 1980 Olympics, a connection that many visitors pass by without knowing.
