Devon Redlands, Natural region in southwestern England.

The Devon Redlands is an agricultural region in southwestern England that stretches along the coast from Torquay to Otterton. Gentle rolling hills and valleys define the landscape, with red sandstone cliffs along the shore creating a distinctive appearance.

This region was home to the Dumnonii, Celtic Britons, during ancient times and the period of Roman conquest in Britain. Their early settlement left marks in local place names and settlement patterns that remain visible today.

Traditional farmsteads built from stone and cob are scattered throughout the landscape, showing how farming shaped the way people lived here for centuries. The way these buildings blend into the rolling hills reflects generations of people working the land according to the seasons.

The red soil derived from sandstone creates excellent conditions for farming and grazing, which continue to shape daily life in the region. Visitors will find open green countryside with extensive fields and pastures ideal for walking and exploring.

Rivers flow through flat-bottomed valleys, creating extensive flood plains especially near the River Exe estuary south of Exeter. These flat wetlands create a striking contrast to the rolling hills and influence how the land is used today.
