Sue Godfrey Nature Park, Nature reserve in Deptford, London Borough of Lewisham, England
Sue Godfrey Nature Park is a nature reserve in Deptford within London Borough of Lewisham, containing more than 200 plant species across rough grassland and scrubland areas. The space between Bronze Street and Berthon Street forms a natural sanctuary within the urban surroundings.
The site opened as Bronze Street Nature Park in 1984 and was renamed in 1994 to honor local environmental campaigner Sue Godfrey. This change reflected her dedication to protecting the space.
The site displays remnants of three large potteries and lime kilns from 1701, with walls built from pottery fragments still visible throughout the park today.
The park features accessible pathways where visitors can easily observe local wildlife. Spring and summer offer the best times to explore when insects and birds are most active.
Six butterfly species inhabit the park alongside grasshoppers and bush-crickets, creating a diverse insect ecosystem. This richness of insects is noteworthy for a location surrounded by urban development.
