Raeburn Open Space, Local nature reserve in Berrylands, England.
Raeburn Open Space is a local nature reserve in Berrylands covering about 5 hectares of mixed habitats. Mown grass areas sit alongside unmanaged grassland, ancient hedgerows, scrub, and woods, with the Tolworth Brook running through the site.
The site received official nature reserve status in 1992, though active management only started in 2017 through community efforts. This transition sparked practical conservation work and environmental improvements across the reserve.
The Friends of Berrylands Nature Reserve group coordinates conservation activities and community events to maintain and protect the local green spaces.
The reserve has four main entry points: Elmbridge Avenue, two access points at Stirling Walk via Grand Avenue and Raeburn Avenue, and Meldone Close. Visitors can explore the grounds throughout the day, though some areas can be muddy depending on recent weather.
The Environmental Trust used Thames Water funding to remove concrete channeling from the stream and create a wildlife pond. A wooden bridge was also built as part of these restoration efforts to support natural habitat conditions.
