Alscot Park, Grade I listed building in Preston on Stour, England
Alscot Park is a Georgian country house built from limestone ashlar with a T-shaped plan and seven bays across its two-storey facade. The estate encompasses extensive parkland and meadows interspersed by the River Stour running through its grounds.
Politician and Treasury official James West acquired the estates in 1747 and commissioned construction of the house. It emerged during a period of major transformations in English country estates.
The estate spans 4,000 acres of parkland and farmland, divided by the River Stour, representing rural English architectural heritage.
The estate now operates as a mixed-use property with residential units, offices, studios, and commercial spaces spread across the grounds. Visitors should check ahead to understand which areas are accessible, as parts remain in private use.
The estate received the Bledisloe Gold Medal from the Royal Agricultural Society in 2011 for exemplary land management. This award recognizes sustainable practices in countryside stewardship.
