Combe Mill, Victorian sawmill in Combe, England
Combe Mill is a Victorian-era timber processing facility located beside the River Evenlode in Oxfordshire. It houses steam-powered machinery and tools that demonstrate how wood was cut and shaped during the industrial period.
The mill was built in the 19th century as a timber-cutting facility powered by water from the River Evenlode. Later it was upgraded with steam engines to increase production during the industrial boom.
The site displays traditional woodworking and mechanical engineering practices from the Victorian era. You can see how timber was processed using steam-powered equipment and hand tools in that period.
The main facility is closed for maintenance until March 2025, but the Tea Room remains open on Wednesdays. Check opening times before visiting if you want to explore the machinery or enjoy refreshments on site.
The original Victorian steam engines still work and are operated during special demonstration days throughout the year. Seeing these engines in action offers a rare glimpse into how mills actually functioned during the industrial age.
