Church of St Lawrence

The Church of St Lawrence is a medieval place of worship in Foleshill with a distinctive tower built in the 15th century. The structure features sandstone walls and preserves interior elements including a 12th-century font and a 16th-century wooden chest with iron bands.

An initial chapel was established at this location by Godiva and Leofric before a sandstone structure was built around 1150. The building underwent several changes and extensions over the following centuries, shaping the form seen today.

This church has served as a gathering place for the neighborhood for hundreds of years and continues to host community events alongside worship. Visitors can observe how locals use the space for both religious observance and social connection.

The church is located on Old Church Road in northeast Coventry and can be reached by public transport. Since it remains an active place of worship, checking opening times in advance or attending a service is recommended for access.

The tower contains three bells cast between 1616 and 1635 by bell-maker Hugh Watts of Leicester. The largest bell was designed for half-muffled ringing, a specialized sounding technique that remains notable today.
