Doreward's Hall, Grade II* listed building in Bocking Church Street, Braintree, England.
Doreward's Hall is an L-shaped structure on Bocking Church Street in Braintree that combines brick and timber-framed construction across two stories. It features octagonal buttresses, mullioned windows, and tiled roofs that define its appearance.
Edward Thursby rebuilt the hall in 1579, incorporating earlier elements into the new structure. Changes during the 17th and 18th centuries further expanded the building's architectural form.
The building displays an early 17th-century overmantel and other architectural features that show how English homes changed over time. Walking through the spaces, you can see how different construction styles and methods were combined together.
The building now serves as a divided farmhouse and is protected under Grade II* listing. Its original structural features remain intact despite its current residential use.
The southwest corner of the west wing displays the date 1572, which researchers discovered was added later and not part of the original construction. This marking reveals how the building was modified and reinterpreted over time.
