Castle Farmhouse, Grade I listed farmhouse in St Georges-super-Ely, Wales
Castle Farmhouse is a substantial stone building with medieval timber roof structures and windows featuring carved surrounds, arranged primarily around a first-floor hall. The layout includes connected rooms that form the main living and working spaces of the structure.
The building originated as part of a Norman castle belonging to the Le Fleming family, who received the manor of St Georges in 1314. Its connection to the original castle structures remains visible in the architectural design today.
The first-floor great hall displays Welsh building methods with carved roof beams and stone walls that were part of everyday life for the people who lived here.
The farmhouse remains privately owned and is accessible only by prior appointment. Visitors should arrange a scheduled viewing in advance to gain access to the property.
A concealed doorway with a four-centered arch was discovered in 2008 hidden in the western wall of the parlor. This hidden entrance suggests the building underwent alterations or had spaces that were later sealed off.
