Llwyn-celyn Farmhouse

Llwyn-celyn is a stone farmhouse in Crucorney built with red sandstone walls and a traditional medieval layout that organizes space around a cross-passage. The original great hall and timber roof structure with arched braced collar beams showcase the craftsmanship of its period.

The farmhouse was built around 1480 as an open hall house with storeyed sections added to one end. The 17th century brought changes that modified its original design.

The layout reveals how people organized daily life in medieval Wales, with distinct areas for work, gathering, and rest. Walking through, you can see how each room served different purposes for the household.

The roof still contains original medieval timber beams with arched braces that bear black marks from the open hearth smoke. These scorch marks are a direct window into how the house functioned centuries ago.
