Gatehouse and attached range at St Pierre Hotel, Medieval gatehouse in Mathern, Wales
The gatehouse features sandstone rubble construction with Bath Stone dressings and includes two battlemented turrets made from local limestone.
William Lewis constructed the original mansion in the late 15th century, while his son George expanded the structure between 1475 and 1508.
The gatehouse stands as the main remnant of a significant manor house that belonged to the Lewis family, who maintained ownership until 1924.
The structure forms part of the St Pierre Hotel complex, which now operates as a Marriott hotel with golf facilities and country club amenities.
The surrounding gardens of the estate hold recognition on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.
