Red Lion, Snargate

Red Lion, Snargate, 16th-century pub in Snargate, England

The Red Lion is a 16th-century pub in Snargate with an interior that has remained unchanged since 1911. The space displays 1940s posters and uses direct gravity dispense from casks at the bar, while traditional games and a garden area are available to guests.

The building originated as a coaching inn called Shepherd and Lamb in the 1780s to serve travelers with horses. Its present appearance was shaped when Alfred Jemison took over in 1911 and preserved the interior from that point onward.

This pub holds a special place in village life as a recognized historic public house in the national registry. It functions as a gathering space where local traditions and community connections remain active.

Visitors can enjoy snacks at the bar, traditional games for entertainment, and parking near the outdoor garden area. It helps to arrive early for a better choice of seating, especially on weekends.

The pub has appeared regularly in the Good Beer Guide and hosts beer festivals around the Summer Solstice. This long-standing recognition draws beer enthusiasts who make the effort to visit.
