Beaumont Hotel, Art Deco hotel in Mayfair, London, United Kingdom.
Beaumont Hotel is an Art Deco hotel on Balderton Street in Mayfair, occupying a stone-fronted building with 73 rooms across several floors. The property sits close to Brown Hart Gardens and is part of a quiet residential block in central London.
The building was put up in 1926 by architects Wimperis and Simpson to serve as a multi-storey car park, one of the first of its kind in London. It was given Grade II listed status in 2009, before being converted into a hotel.
The hotel contains a guest room created by British sculptor Antony Gormley, visible from the street as a steel cube attached to the building's facade. Staying in it means sleeping inside a work of art, which makes it unlike any other room in the hotel.
The hotel is in Mayfair, within walking distance of several Underground stations, which makes it easy to reach from most parts of central London. Booking ahead is advisable, as the number of rooms is limited.
The rows of openings that give the facade its grid-like appearance were originally designed to let cars drive in and out of the parking floors. When the building was converted, these openings were kept and turned into windows, giving the hotel its recognizable exterior.
