Golders Green War Memorial, War memorial clock tower in Golders Green, United Kingdom
Golders Green War Memorial is a clock tower at the intersection of North End Road and Finchley Road, marked by four clock faces and carved wreaths at its top. The Grade II listed structure features marble plaques bearing the names of those remembered.
The memorial was unveiled in 1923 to honor 181 local residents who died in World War I. After World War II, additional names were added to remember the 164 who perished in that later conflict.
The monument was deliberately designed without religious symbols to honor the local Jewish community members who contributed financially to its creation. This choice shows how the neighborhood came together to remember those who fell.
The memorial sits at a busy street intersection and is easily accessible on foot, making it a visible landmark in the area. The location allows visitors to view the plaques from multiple sides.
Four virtues are carved into the top of the tower: Courage, Honor, Justice, and Loyalty, representing the ideals for which those remembered fought. A distinctive book-shaped marble tablet on the front plinth resembles an open book.
