The Olde Wine Shades, Historic pub and Grade II listed building in Martin Lane, City of London, England.
The Olde Wine Shades is a three-story Grade II listed building on Martin Lane featuring wooden beams, period furnishings, and a preserved cellar reached by stone steps. This structure originally served merchant trading operations and retains the layout and materials from its 1660s construction.
Built in 1663 as a merchant's house, the building survived the Great Fire of 1666 that destroyed much of London. It remained in continuous use through subsequent centuries despite suffering bomb damage during World War II.
The name reflects its origins as a wine merchant's establishment in the 1600s. Visitors can observe the wooden beams and stone details that reveal how the building served London's trading community.
The pub sits near Monument Station and offers several spaces suitable for private gatherings and events. Different rooms can be reserved for groups of varying sizes, from intimate meetings to larger celebrations.
The cellar contains the original entrance to the merchant tunnel that once led toward the Thames. Though the tunnel was later sealed, this entrance remains visible as a tangible reminder of the building's trading past.
