St Catherine's Church, Medieval church in Llanfaes, Wales
St Catherine's Church is a medieval church in Llanfaes, Wales, with a west tower built in 1811 and a tapered stone spire completed in 1845. The building features a nave, chancel, north porch, and displays rubble stone construction with finely detailed window designs.
The building has medieval origins but acquired its current form through 19th century alterations. The north aisle was added in 1885 for the Williams Bulkeley family of Baron Hill, and the south aisle followed in 1890 for the Hampton-Lewis family.
The church preserves numerous memorials from earlier periods, including a Gothic monument to Sir Robert Williams and marble flooring installed in 1902. These remembrances tell stories of families who shaped the community over generations.
The church welcomes visitors and maintains regular services that provide insight into the active religious life of the community. Its location in Llanfaes allows visitors to explore other local sites in the area.
The building displays both Geometric and Decorated architectural styles side by side. This combination of crafted stone details with tapered corners makes the church a noteworthy example of how Welsh church architecture evolved over time.
