The Literary Institute, Grade II listed conference hall in Sandbach, England

The Literary Institute is a red brick building with blue decorative elements located in Sandbach, featuring multiple event spaces for gatherings. It contains reading rooms, a corn exchange, and a long room for public assemblies, along with an octagonal two-story porch topped with a hipped roof.

The building opened in 1857 as a result of a public fundraising effort in the community. Its Gothic Revival design made it an important venue for public education and community development during the 1800s.

The institute served as a gathering place for the community and hosted lectures, concerts, and social events from the start. Today, people still use the building as a venue for events that bring the town together.

The building is located in Hightown and easy to find, sitting centrally in town and visible from the street. Visitors can explore different rooms and spaces within the complex, which serves both as an event venue and a place to visit.

The front elevation features six distinct bays with varying window styles and an octagonal tower, creating an asymmetrical appearance. This unconventional design gives the building its distinctive character and sets it apart from typical meeting halls of its era.
