Oconomowoc, Third-class city in Waukesha County, Wisconsin.

Oconomowoc is a city in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, situated alongside several lakes and waterways. The area consists of residential neighborhoods, local businesses, and parks that shape everyday life in the community.

The first land claim in the area was established in 1837 at Fowler Lake when Charles Sheldon arrived and laid the foundation for the settlement. This early occupation led to the development of what Oconomowoc became over time.

The name Oconomowoc comes from the Potawatomi language and means waterfall, reflecting the deep connection this area has with Native American heritage. This indigenous origin shapes how locals understand their community's identity.

The city is conveniently located near Milwaukee and easy to reach by road. Visitors will find restaurants, shops, and places to stay spread throughout different parts of town.

The Strand Theatre hosted the first Midwest premiere of The Wizard of Oz in 1939 before the film appeared in larger cities. This small local cinema played a surprising role in film history before the movie became widely known across the country.
