Gladwin County, Administrative county in central Michigan, United States.
Gladwin County is an administrative county in central Michigan composed of small towns and rural communities spread across the region. The landscape includes forests, waterways, and open areas that form the setting for daily life in this part of the state.
The county was established in 1831 and formally organized in 1875, taking its name from Henry Gladwin. He gained recognition as commander of Detroit during a military conflict in 1763.
The Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District provides specialized education programs and technical career opportunities for county residents throughout the academic year.
Major highways M-18, M-30, and M-61 connect the various communities throughout the region, making it easy to travel between residential and commercial areas. These routes form the main network for getting around the county.
Marvel Secord established the first permanent settlement along the Tittabawassee River in 1861, and the area later took his name. This early settlement shows how the river shaped the region's growth.
