Cyril E. King Airport, International airport in Charlotte Amalie, United States Virgin Islands
Cyril E. King Airport is an international commercial aerodrome in Charlotte Amalie, United States Virgin Islands. The terminal building covers approximately 17,650 square meters (190,000 square feet) on the ground floor and features 11 gates for passenger operations.
The site began in 1927 as Mosquito Bay airstrip and became Bourne Field during World War II for military operations. After the war ended, the facility gradually evolved into a civilian aerodrome serving the growing tourism industry in the islands.
The facility received its current name in 1984 to honor Cyril E. King, the second elected governor of the territory. This renaming recognized his contributions to local self-governance and regional development during his time in office.
Travelers should arrive at the terminal at least three hours before departure to allow enough time for check-in and security procedures. Payment at ticket counters is accepted only through credit or debit cards, as cash transactions are not available there.
The runway stretches approximately 2,130 meters (7,000 feet) and sits among the deepest man-made landing surfaces in the Caribbean. This unusual elevation requires specific approach procedures for pilots who must be familiar with local conditions.
