The Apotheosis of Washington, Fresco in U.S. Capitol Building

The Apotheosis of Washington is a large fresco by Greek-Italian artist Constantino Brumidi.

Completed in 1865, it's located in the eye of the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol Building.

The artwork depicts George Washington rising to the heavens in glory, flanked by female figures representing Liberty and Victory/Fame.

It can be viewed during a tour of the U.S. Capitol Building.

Despite its age, the fresco has never been retouched.
