Tuckahoe

Tuckahoe is a village in Westchester County that stretches along the Bronx River roughly sixteen miles north of Manhattan. The area covers about 0.6 square miles and functions today as a residential community with local governance.

The discovery of marble deposits near the Bronx River around 1812 transformed the settlement from a rural area into an industrial center. This marble production shaped the community's economic development and infrastructure for many decades.

The name comes from a Native American language and refers to edible root bulbs that once grew in the region. These plants were an important food source for early settlers and gave the place its name.
