Carr Mill Mall houses more than 25 local businesses and offices across multiple floors in a transformed industrial building at North Greensboro Street.
The building began as Alberta Cotton Mill in 1898, later becoming a hardwood cross-tie manufacturer before its conversion into a shopping center in 1977.
Local musician Elizabeth Cotten wrote the song 'Freight Train' during her teenage years, drawing inspiration from the railroad tracks near the mill complex.
The shopping center maintains a monitored parking system with free spaces reserved exclusively for customers visiting the stores and restaurants.
The National Register of Historic Places lists this ten-acre commercial complex as the Alberta Mill Complex, preserving its industrial heritage.
