First Congregational Church of New Village

First Congregational Church of New Village, church building in New York, United States of America

The First Congregational Church of New Village is a church building on the north side of Middle Country Road in Lake Grove. It features Federal-style architecture from the early 1800s with simple lines, balanced proportions, and straightforward wooden and brick construction that has been carefully maintained.

The church was built around 1818 and initially served as a gathering place for the growing community. In 1961 the congregation moved to a larger location, after which the original building was taken over by the town and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The name changed to First Congregational Church of New Village in 1845 as the local community grew and established its own identity. The building appears on the official village seal of Lake Grove, demonstrating its role as a symbol of the area's heritage and communal bonds.

The building is located along Middle Country Road and is easily visible from the sidewalk. It is accessible for visitors who want to view its historic architecture, and the well-maintained grounds with mature trees provide a pleasant setting for a walk around the property.

The building appears on the official seal of Lake Grove, reflecting its deep importance to the local community. Although the active congregation moved to another location in 1961, this original building remains a quiet witness to the area's early history and continues to draw visitors interested in local heritage.
