The Józef Piłsudski Institute maintains an archive of one million documents and twenty thousand books covering Polish history from 1863 to present day.
Established in 1943 by Polish-American leaders and political expatriates, the institute continued the mission of the 1923 Warsaw research center during World War II.
The gallery displays 240 artworks from Polish painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including pieces by Jan Matejko and Józef Chełmoński.
Researchers can access diplomatic papers, photographs, films, posters, periodicals, and personal memoirs of Polish leaders in the institute's extensive collection.
The collection includes 2,450 military, administrative, and political maps of Poland dating from the mid-nineteenth century through 1999.
