Museum of Food and Drink, Food education museum in DUMBO, Brooklyn, United States
The Museum of Food and Drink is located on the second floor of the Empire Stores building and displays interactive exhibits about food science and production. The spaces are filled with actual machines and equipment that show how ingredients are transformed into food products.
The museum was founded in 2005 and opened to the public in 2013 with a major exhibition focused on cereal production. This opening exhibition was funded through crowdfunding and showcased industrial production methods.
The museum shows how food is made and used in different cultures around the world. Visitors see real techniques and equipment used in traditional kitchens and modern food production.
The museum is open Thursday through Sunday, and admission can be booked online in advance. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since there are many interactive stations to explore.
The museum owns a 1,400-pound machine that demonstrates how cereal is puffed and transformed into its final form. This impressive equipment comes from real factories and shows the power of industrial processes.
