Journey Through Hallowed Ground National Heritage Area

Journey Through Hallowed Ground National Heritage Area is a 180-mile corridor stretching through four states and connecting historic sites, farmland, forests, and mountain landscapes. The area encompasses nine presidential homes, numerous national and state parks, and thousands of locations listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The area received federal designation as a National Heritage Area in 2008, creating a framework for preserving important locations in American history. This recognition brought organizations and communities together to protect numerous sites connected to the presidency, agriculture, and civil rights.

The region carries deep ties to American presidential history, as several former residences of presidents are located throughout it. These homes show how the private lives of national leaders were shaped by their surrounding landscapes and communities.
