Nathan Bowen House, Federal architecture house in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
The Nathan Bowen House is a wood-frame building with two and a half stories, notable for having separate kitchen fireplaces and bake ovens on each floor. The interior layout has remained largely unchanged from its original design without modifications to the wall structure.
The house was built around 1785 and remained under Bowen family ownership through the late nineteenth century. It was added to the National Register in 1983.
The house reflects how families organized their daily life and cooking in late 1700s New England through its layout and working kitchen spaces.
The building is located on Kelton Street in Rehoboth on a two-acre property that retains its historic setting. The structure can be viewed from outside, and interested visitors should contact local historical organizations for information about access to the interior.
The structure was designed as a duplex with two completely separate living spaces, each with its own kitchen facilities. This arrangement makes it an early example of how multiple families could share one building.
