Pine Lake State Park

Pine Lake State Park, State park with twin lakes in Hardin County, Iowa, US.

Pine Lake State Park covers roughly 585 acres of land with two interconnected lakes where visitors can swim, fish, and boat. The forested terrain includes trails for walking, picnic areas, and open spaces where people gather to enjoy the natural landscape.

This park was established in 1926 as one of Iowa's first state parks, marking an early effort to protect natural areas in the region. During the 1930s, several stone and timber structures were built that remain part of the park's infrastructure today.

This spot draws anglers who cast lines for trout and other fish species in both lakes throughout the year. Visitors gather along the shorelines to relax and take in the woodland setting around the water.

The park provides a campground with electrical hookups, showers, and restroom facilities for overnight guests seeking a full camping experience. Visitors can explore trails and access the lakes year-round, though conditions vary with the seasons.

The park is home to a rare stand of white pine trees that represents the southernmost natural population of this species in Iowa. A severe hailstorm in 2009 damaged many of these trees, but some continue to grow throughout the grounds.
