Rockingham Hotel, Colonial Revival hotel building in Portsmouth, United States
The Rockingham Hotel at 401 State Street exhibits Colonial Revival architecture with brownstone trim, terra cotta sculptures, and two-story oriel window bays.
Built in 1885 on the site of Woodbury Langdon's residence, the hotel replaced the original 1785 structure that was damaged by fire in 1884.
The property maintains its historic dining room with mahogany woodwork, which now houses the Library Restaurant, reflecting Portsmouth's architectural preservation.
The National Register of Historic Places listed building converted to condominiums in 1973 while preserving its architectural elements and public spaces.
Multiple United States Presidents stayed at the hotel, including George Washington, Franklin Pierce, Theodore Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy.
