Sanborn House

The Sanborn House is a private residential building in Beaux Arts style located on the Ambrose Elementary School campus. The structure spans multiple floors with decorated interior spaces and now functions as a community venue for exhibitions and events.

The house was built between 1906 and 1907 for Oren Sanborn, whose father co-founded the Chase & Sanborn Coffee Company. This construction represented a major building effort by the wealthy family at the start of the 20th century.

The Winchester Historical Society operates this property as a venue for exhibitions and community meetings. The interior spaces show how affluent families lived in the early 1900s and used their homes as centers for social gatherings.

The house sits on school grounds and is visible from the street, though access may be limited. Check ahead for availability and visiting times since it functions primarily as a community space and exhibition venue.

The building was originally known as Aigremont, a name reflecting its origins as a country estate. Today it remains one of the few surviving examples of country house architecture from that era in the area.
