Southern National Motorsports Park, Racetrack
Southern National Motorsports Park is an oval asphalt racing track located in Lucama, North Carolina. The turns are steeply banked, which allows cars to carry speed through the corners, while the straightaways are flatter and slightly shorter.
The track opened in the early 1990s and quickly became a regular stop on the regional racing calendar in the Carolinas. Over the years it has served as an early proving ground for drivers who later moved on to larger national series.
The track sits in a part of the American South where racing is a deeply rooted local passion, not just a sport. Fans tend to follow specific drivers from the region over many seasons, giving race days a personal and community feel.
The racing season runs from late winter through late autumn, so it is worth checking the event calendar before planning a trip. Arriving early on race day is a good idea, since popular events draw large crowds and parking areas fill up fast.
The track hosts the Thanksgiving Classic, a race held just after the main season ends, which means fans return to the grandstands at a time when most other tracks have already closed for the year. The opening SpeedWeek event each spring is one of the few occasions when local teams of all levels compete side by side on the same weekend.
