Thomas Point Shoal Light, Wooden lighthouse in Chesapeake Bay, US
The Thomas Point Shoal Light stands 15 meters tall with a hexagonal cottage structure supported by cast iron beams in the Chesapeake Bay.
Built in 1875, this lighthouse replaced earlier structures and remained staffed until 1986 when automated systems took over navigation assistance duties.
The lighthouse represents maritime navigation evolution in Maryland, functioning continuously since its construction as a guide for vessels through Chesapeake Bay.
Access to Thomas Point Shoal Light requires boat transportation, with guided tours operating from Annapolis during three months of the year.
This structure maintains its original position as the last unmodified screw-pile lighthouse with cottage design still operating in the Chesapeake Bay.
