Waterford Speedbowl, tor wyścigowy (Stany Zjednoczone)
Waterford Speedbowl is a racing track in Connecticut with an oval asphalt layout spanning roughly three eighths of a mile. The course features four banked turns and straightaways on both sides, designed to host modified stock cars and various racing divisions throughout the year.
The track opened in 1951 as the New London-Waterford Speed Bowl with a crushed stone surface but was resurfaced with asphalt just weeks later to improve racing conditions. Under various owners over the decades, the Speedbowl underwent numerous changes, including NASCAR sanctioning, while also facing periods of financial difficulty that threatened its survival.
The track serves as a gathering place where local racing fans come together regularly to share their passion for motorsport. Families, longtime supporters, and newcomers bond over the shared experience of watching speed and competition unfold each race day.
The track is easily accessible from Interstate 395 and offers parking for visitors. On race days, food vendors provide snacks and drinks, and arriving early is recommended to secure a good seat in the grandstands.
The track was originally not exclusively for car racing but hosted diverse events from family rallies in the 1950s to bicycle championships and motorcycle protests in later years. This varied history reveals how the Speedbowl served the community beyond racing, adapting its purpose to local needs.
