Winnekenni Castle, Stone castle house in Haverhill, Massachusetts.

The stone castle stands on elevated ground overlooking Kenoza Lake within a 700-acre conservation area featuring multiple hiking trails.

Dr. James R. Nichols, a local chemist, constructed this summer residence between 1873 and 1875, employing architect C. Willis Damon for the design.

The castle serves as a community gathering point where the Winnekenni Foundation organizes various events throughout the year for local residents.

The building remains closed for rehabilitation work, but visitors can explore the surrounding park grounds and contact the Parks Department for updates.

The name Winnekenni comes from an Algonquin word meaning 'very beautiful,' chosen by the original owner to describe the property.
