World Bank Infoshop, Development bookstore in Washington DC, United States
The World Bank Infoshop was a bookstore located at 701 18th Street Northwest offering publications on economics, development, poverty reduction, and environmental topics. The retail space served as a resource center where visitors could purchase or research materials focused on international development issues.
This venue was established in 2000 by merging the World Bank's bookstore with its public information center. It remained open as a resource for development literature and discussions until it closed in February 2017.
The store hosted regular events with international authors and provided a platform for discussions about global development, economics, and social issues.
The bookstore offered discounts to students, government officials, and NGO employees on their purchases. All World Bank publications were also available as free digital downloads for wider access.
In 2006, the bookstore installed a beta version of the Espresso Book Machine, bringing on-demand printing technology to Washington DC for the first time. This machine allowed visitors to have books printed and bound on-site within minutes.
