The Black River is a river system extending approximately 300 miles through southeastern Missouri and northeastern Arkansas. It joins the White River near Jacksonport, creating an important waterway in the region.
A wildlife management area was established in 1957 with gradual land acquisitions in the region. The management area received its current name in 1977, honoring a Game and Fish Commission employee.

You can access the river at multiple points along its length, with a boat ramp at the US 62 Black River Bridge in Corning being one of the main entry points. Additional access areas like Brookings Public Access and Mill Lake Public Access in Knobel offer other ways to reach the water.
