Birdwood, Historic plantation house in Charlottesville, United States.
The two-story brick mansion features four dependencies, including a smokehouse, an office with basement icehouse, and a garden complex.
William Garth constructed Birdwood between 1819 and 1830 with architectural elements matching those of the University of Virginia buildings.
The property evolved from a tobacco and wheat plantation with 52 enslaved workers to a modern golf course owned by the University of Virginia.
The mansion and its surrounding structures received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in October 2003 under reference 03001094.
The property includes a water tower constructed in the form of a lighthouse during the Colonial Revival modifications by the Rinehart family.
