High Street Historic District

The High Street Historic District extends for four blocks from Town Farm Road to North Main Street, containing over thirty structures built before 1750.

High Street served as part of the Old Bay Road with an established stagecoach stop in 1761, receiving daily traffic from eight to twelve coaches by 1828.

The district includes buildings that represent architectural evolution through First Period, Georgian, Federal, Greek Revival, and Victorian styles across three centuries.

The area maintains its residential character while offering visitors access to view numerous early American architectural examples within walking distance.

The district contains the converted 1770s town jail, which transformed into a Greek Revival residence during the nineteenth century.
