Dahlia Hill, Non-profit garden organization in Midland, Michigan.
Dahlia Hill is a garden organization in Midland that cultivates more than 3,000 dahlia plants representing around 250 different varieties across eight stone terraces. The space spans roughly 1.4 acres with circular planting beds arranged on a sloped hillside.
The garden began in 1992 when the founder converted a grassy slope beside his art studio into a space for growing dahlias. This personal project grew into an organized effort run by volunteers and community members.
Eight stone terraces with circular planting beds create a layered landscape where visitors walk among the flowers and observe the work of local gardeners. The space serves as a community garden maintained by dedicated volunteers throughout the year.
The garden is open to visitors during the growing season when volunteers share information about dahlia care and cultivation techniques. Surplus tubers and seeds become available for purchase after the plants finish blooming.
Four tall aluminum sculptures representing the seasons stand throughout the garden, a donation from the founder in 2008. These artworks add an unexpected sculptural dimension to the flower space.
