Locust Grove

Locust Grove is a two-story brick residence with five bays, a hipped roof, and a covered entry with paired columns. The property also includes the original kitchen building and smokehouse that date from the same period.

The house was built between 1840 and 1844 and reflects early American residential building practices of that era. It received official protection when it became a Virginia Landmark in 1981 and was added to the National Register in 1982.

The house stands in the Martha Jefferson Historic District and shows how well-to-do families built their homes during the 1800s. The Georgian design and careful craftsmanship reflect the style that was popular in this area at that time.
