The Elms

The Elms is a Queen Anne style mansion featuring a central block with a hipped roof, a pedimented gable end, and a three-story turret crowned with a conical roof. The exterior displays the ornamental detailing characteristic of residential estates built during the late 1800s.

The house was built in 1898 for Paul D. Camp, founder of Camp Manufacturing Company. The property gained recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The architectural design combines elements of Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styles, representing the residential preferences of late nineteenth-century Virginia society.

The residence is situated on substantial grounds at Clay Street in Franklin, Virginia, and remains a private property today. Visitors can appreciate the exterior and its setting while exploring the surrounding area.

The structure retains its original decorative iron cresting on the roof, demonstrating the advanced metalworking techniques of the late 1800s.
